Topic 1: Global Nursing Shortage

Evaluate the effects of the global nursing shortage on health policy. How has the shortage affected the United Nation’s Millennium Development Goals? Analyze how nursing ideas, values, and beliefs impact policy agenda. Identify when policy can dictate treatment options.

For each Discussion Topic:

Initial posts for each discussion topic must also include a minimum of three peer-reviewed citations.Citations must include outside sources. Additionally, comments should also include a citation to support assertions. While the discussion board tool limits the ability to use APA formatting (e.g., hanging indents), posts must include the required elements of an APA in-text citation and list of references. Each post requires it’s Own answer. They do not require a front face sheet.

Benchmarking compares services provided with those provided by other organizations. This technique can be applied at many levels from the system to the unit level. Review your textbook for a discussion on this topic and also visit the South University library for current articles on Benchmarking. After reading and reflecting on this information, post a response including your ideas on the following questions:

1. Discuss how the nurse manager might use benchmarking to compare the unit with other departments in terms of productivity, budgeting, educational activities, and shared governance.

2. How does benchmarking improve “team” performance?

3. How does it promote healthy competition and unit pride?

4. How can benchmarking be used in your plan of action?

By Saturday, January 7, 2017, go to the Discussion Area and post responses to the discussion assignment. . Citations should conform to APA guidelines.

Must be detailed in nature for each question posted (4?s), have at least more then 500 words and 3 journal articles within the last 5 years.
