Discussion on Safety Requirements

Safety Requirements [WLOs: 2, 3, 4] [CLOs: 1, 2]

Prior to beginning this discussion, review this week’s required readings and weekly lecture. OSHA has valuable guidelines for both the employer and employee. The purpose of OSHA is to provide, as far as possible, safe and healthful working conditions for U.S. workers. Under the law, both employees and employers have a role and responsibility. For this discussion, you will discuss the rights and responsibilities of the employee under OSHA.

In your initial post, take on the role you have been assigned to and examine how OSHA applies to you.

  • What are your rights and responsibilities?
  • How is it enforced?
  • What accommodations are available under OSHA?
  • What conditions must be met before an employee can refuse to work based on OSHA.

Your initial post should be at least two substantial paragraphs.

Resources are attached.

===========================================================================

Consider this scenario – You are a management consultant and you have 2 clients.

Client 1 is a computer manufacturer.

Client 2 is a manufacturer of oral hygiene products such as toothpaste, mouthwash etc.

Your clients are asking you What kind of supply chain should I have for my products?”

What advice would you give to these two clients?

Read the article and provide your response based on the article. Provide adequate reasoning.

University of Maryland Concept of Renaissance Artist Scientist Disscussion

please respond to this thread by writing a thorough and thoughtful 300 word essay that answers one of the following question sets:

  1. How did the printing press transform human knowledge? How do you see the necessary simplicity of oral communication affecting the depth of understanding that people had about the news, so to speak? How would the fact that most information about the world, most news, came from the pulpit affect the transmission of this information to villagers and townspeople? How did the printing press change this?
  2. How do the following quotations illustrate the tension between science and religion in the Renaissance? How did new cosmological discoveries contribute to the establishment of the Church?
    • “The Bible shows the way to go to heaven, not the way the heavens go.” – Galileo Galilei
    • “In questions of science, the authority of a thousand is not worth the humble reasoning of a single individual.” – Galileo Galilei
  3. Discuss the concept of the Renaissance Artist-Scientist. Explain the several Renaissance concepts of perspective. What are these artist-scientists attempting to accomplish? Discuss the works of Masaccio and Leonardo da Vinci among others.
  4. Compare the Medieval World Map, circa 1264, with Ptolemy’s 2nd century map, which can be found in the Atlases link in this week’s readings, or below in a clearer version.

In the version below, we have a Renaissance era replica of Ptolemy’s map, which had been rediscovered in the late 13th century. Even though Ptolemy’s map was more than a thousand years older than the Medieval World Map, it looks much more like maps we would use today. You do not have to answer all of these questions. Simply use them to shape your comparison:

What does Ptolemy’s map allow that the medieval map does not? Why was the discovery of Ptolemy’s map so important? How did it change the way people saw the universe? From what the two maps emphasize, what appears to be important in Ptolemy’s world of 2nd century Greece, as compared to what appears to be important in medieval Europe?

  5. Your Initial Post is expected to be a 300 word prose essay, with a thesis statement and 2-5 paragraphs supporting and explaining the thesis

Getting this balance right is one of the skills needed to write a good proposal and ultimately a good project.

Your proposal would be a framework that would improve your understanding of a significant academic concept, business and organizational matter.

Initially you are required to submit smaller reports as pilot studies and present your research topic in the class. Once the feedback on that is received a full proposal can be submitted. The first pilot report is about choosing a topic, providing a rationale for the study and developing your research objectives. The second pilot report involves reviewing and writing literature review on the chosen topic.

You are specifically required to undertake the following tasks

    Research Proposal

The proposal should be systematically presented with:

  • Suitable title

  • The last submission, within the deadline, will be considered as your final submission.
  • Assignments should be submitted by 6 pm on the day of the deadline. There is a grace period until midnight to allow for technical difficulties, but any assignment submitted after this will be considered as a late submission. Technical problems will not be accepted as an excuse for a late submission.
  • The similarity percentage of your final submission will be one of the factors considered, for assessing the originality of your assignment. However, the decision to report an assignment for plagiarism is taken by the Lecturers, who mark your assignment.
  • The Lecturers will consider a number of factors such as Assignment type, part of the assignment where similarity occurs, nature of similarity etc., along with the similarity percentage of your assignment to assess the originality of your assignment. Therefore, similarity percentage would not be accepted as a basis for disputing academic judgments regarding plagiarism.
  • Note that the similarity percentage of your submission can change till the submission deadline, if the submissions of other students have similarity to your assignment. Therefore, the similarity percentages are not final, till the assignment submission is closed.
  • You are required to tick to confirm the statement: “I confirm that this assignment is my own and all sources have been acknowledged. I understand that the use of other people’s work or ideas without acknowledgement is plagiarism and could result in failing the assignment”. You will not be able to submit the assignment without ticking this box.
  • In a case of group work, it is recommended that the group should identify a leader who can be responsible for uploading the assignment on Turnitin and to share the feedback received from lecturers with the group members.

    Additional Information

At the next meeting, you and the team had a very productive discussion on your findings related to the identification of all of the project activities that must happen to start and finish your project. You even took a step further in working with your team members to estimate resources and cost for each of the activities. Everyone feels that it is time to present your findings to Sam and Gloria and provide them with a baseline estimate of how long this project will most likely cost in terms of time and dollars.

“Thanks for educating us on the schedule development planning,” says Jerry to you. “We have some great information here, but I think it is too much detail to present to Sam and Gloria.”

“I agree,” says Melissa. “Does anyone have any ideas on how best to present this information?”

“We should go ahead and plug this information into a project schedule that both Sam and Gloria know and will appreciate. We ought to establish a project baseline at this time. We should define the tasks, start and finish dates, durations, predecessors (sequence of activities), resource names, and possibly cost,” says Sara.

“The project schedule should account for all of the activities that must happen. It must not be less than 30–50 activities and subactivities,” you say.

“Oh, that’s great!” says Jim. “Do you think you can prepare it for the team by next week?”

    Assignment

Tips: Start by looking at the WBS activities that you defined last week. Think about how you could decompose your work packages into activities and subactivities to complete this coffee house project. You should use all of the project artifacts (deliverables) you produced so far and the given project scenario to identify all of the activities that are needed.

You should be able to come up with 30–100 activities easily for your schedule baseline. Once those activities have been identified, finish your schedule by plugging in start and finish dates, durations, predecessor relationships, and adding cost and resource names. Resource names and cost can be added in the main summary page or directly in the resource sheet. Your project name must go in the first row, and all other activates should be indented under it. You should link all activities to summary tasks and subactivities to the main activity. You may make assumptions for any of this work, and estimates do not need to be real. You should save the finished project file as: “Week 3 deliverable_your name.”
