Discussion: Global Countertrading

For this discussion, you will discuss global countertrading and its importance in making global trade affordable and meeting global customer needs.

First, review Chapter 20 and the website Global Offset and Countertrade Association. You will need to find an actual example where companies—or even countries—brokered a countertrade. This is especially common for companies or countries that lack large amounts of foreign currency in order to pay cash for a specific product or service. Next, in your initial post to the discussion, address the following:

  • Briefly summarize the countertrade example you have found.
  • How does countertrading change the way a global company (or country) conducts its business? In other words, does it make the global business (or country) more affordable or more convenient?
  • What do you think about countertrading? Is it important?
