Discuss the power differential among the groups noted in this chapter and the influence of societal perceptions and actions that have limited the full participation of these groups in mainstream society and ultimately treatment. These groups include: women, gay/lesbian/bisexuals, transgender, people with disabilities, children and adolescents, elderly, unemployed, economically disadvantaged, combat veterans. In addition, discuss common barriers to substance abuse treatment that specifically affect diverse cultures.

Part B

Research an article on primary, secondary, and/or tertiary prevention IN SUBSTANCE ABUSE. Give a brief (approximately one quarter written page) example of primary, secondary, or tertiary prevention as it relates to your article and explain why it is the specific type of prevention in this case. BE CLEAR IN YOUR DISCUSSION AS TO THE TYPE OF PREVENTION BEING UTILIZED AND WHAT SUBSTANCE ABUSE INTERVENTIONS WERE ACTUALLY INCLUDED IN THE PREVENTION EFFORTS.  After your post is read I want the other students (and myself) to have more specific substance abuse interventions, based on your post, at their disposal for their clinical work.  You must include the electronic journal reference in your discussion so that other students (and myself) can easily access your article by clicking on it.  Re-read it before you post it and make sure you have included all points required in these instructions.
