Part 3

Ethical Dilemmas: What Would You Do?

Ethics centers around a system of moral values and serves as the basis for how people live their lives and make decisions. The concept includes the idea of doing the right thing for the right reasons; however, these sets of values and guiding principles are not always clear cut and vary from person to person. Sometimes, a situation arises that presents an ethical dilemma, which involves having to choose one ethical value or principle over another. For this Discussion, you will review a series of short scenarios that present ethical dilemmas. You will choose one and consider the options for decision making and possible outcomes.

To prepare for this Discussion:

Post 2–3 paragraphs in which you examine the ethical dilemma you selected. To support your examination:

  • Briefly define the ethical situation from both sides of the issue.
  • Explain what the options are for responding to the ethical situation.
  • Identify which option you would select if you had to make the decision and give your reasoning for why you selected this option.
    • Could your decision or action negatively affect anyone involved?
    • Would you feel confident that your decision would stand the test of time? Why or why not?
  • Include a specific reference to at least one form of evidence to support your post. This could include one or more of additional source of your choosing. You are encouraged to paraphrase—rather than quote—any relevant ideas from your selected form of evidence, and be sure to include the source of the information.

Part 4

Post 2–3 paragraphs in which you illustrate personal leadership behaviors and practices within a team. Specifically:

  • Provide examples of behaviors and practices of an effective team leader.
  • Provide examples of behaviors of an effective follower within a team, including an explanation of the important balance between “me” and “we” in the team setting.
  • Relate the role of personal responsibility and personal leadership to being part of a team (whether as a leader or follower), including the idea of “me” versus “we.”
  • Include a specific reference to at least one form of evidence to support your post. This could include one or more of additional source of your choosing. You are encouraged to paraphrase—rather than quote—any relevant ideas from your selected form of evidence, and be sure to cite the source of the information.

Part 5

Post a 2- to 3-paragraph explanation of what is involved in leading a positive social change movement. In your explanation:

  • Briefly define positive social change, in your own words.
  • Describe your selected example of a movement that had a lasting impact on society.
    • Who led the movement?
    • What was it that caused or inspired the start of that movement?
    • What were the components of that movement, and how did those components support the movement’s impact over time?
  • Include a specific reference to at least one form of evidence to support your post. This could include one or more of an additional source of your choosing. You are encouraged to paraphrase—rather than quote—any relevant ideas from your selected form of evidence and be sure to cite the source of the information.
